•   The association first began in 1937 as a result of a small-college basketball tournament.  Originally called the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball (NAIB), it later became known as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in 1952.

•   The NAIA includes 270 Colleges and Universities this year competing in a variety of sports.  There are 23 National Championships throughout the academic year in basketball, football, baseball, outdoor track and field, indoor track and field, golf, tennis, cross country, diving and swimming, wrestling, soccer, gymnastics, volleyball and bowling, in which some MCC schools are just beginning to compete.
•   The NAIA National Basketball Championship Tournament is held each year for both men and women in Division I and Division II.  A general description of the NAIA Tournament can be found on the Tournament Information page.  An explanation of how the teams are selected can be found at the Qualification Process page.
•   The 21st Annual NAIA D2 Men's National Basketball Tournament will be held March 7-13, 2012, at College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO (near Branson, MO).  The Foresters have been there seven different years, reaching the "Championship Game" in 2006, the "Final Four" in 2000, the "Elite Eight" in 2003 and the "Sweet Sixteen" in 2001 and 2004.  To qualify once again, the Foresters must either win the 2012 MCC Tournament Championship or have a sufficiently high NAIA Final Rating to be assigned an "At Large" berth.
•   Teams favored for the NAIA D2 National Tournament appear in the NAIA D2 Coaches' Poll.  Additional comparisons are made by this site by showing national statistical system ratings and by calculating RPI and Strength of Schedule (SoS) per NCAA published methods.

Massey MOV System Ratings
Note: On Massey pages, select NAIA (where 'cb2012' appears), Then NAIA II (where 'NAIA' appears).
The Wolfe System and Massey BCS System use win/loss, game location and strength of schedule; the Rothman System uses win/loss and points margin; the Massey MOV (Margin Of Victory) System uses win/loss, game location, strength of schedule and points margin.
•   The Tournament Qualification process begins in some conferences when the Regular Season champions are known.  The process concludes when the last conference tournament game is completed.  Results will be reported here on a daily basis starting late February.
