Origins and Honors

Geoff Scheetz completed his fourth year of Forester basketball at HU this season. Geoff came to Huntington University from Plymouth High School (Plymouth, IN), where he played on the same team as Kyle Benge.

As noted by Head Coach Ty Platt, "Geoff is a very good outside shooter and has the ability to score quickly." Platt adds that Scheetz is not only a gifted player, but "an intelligent person and player" who responds when called upon, contributing to the team effort all four years.

At Plymouth High School, Scheetz started every game, averaging over 13 points a game and making 98 three-pointers in his senior year. In fact, he set a State Finals record by making five of his first six three-point shots in the championship game.

While at Huntington, Geoff has received recognition for his academic achievements, as well as his contribution on the court.

Last April, Scheetz was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma national honor society, an organization established to recognize those college student-athletes who earn a varsity letter while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better.

Geoff was also one of a select few inducted into the Omega Psi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi last spring. Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society that recognizes outstanding achievement of education majors.

His dual accomplishments have also been recognized at the national level. Geoff is a two-time NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete.

On the Basketball Court

Geoff has always been a crowd-pleaser on the court, with Forester fans looking forward to his quick and accurate shots from beyond the arc. Geoff could enter a game and quickly give the Foresters a boost with his outside shooting skills.

One such event occurred in the Shawnee State game this past season, where Geoff hit two consecutive three-point shots in the first half to ignite a 23-point Forester run.

This Season and Before

His high game of the season was 12 points versus Kuyper College, where he made four of his six three-point attempts. He also had a career-high four assists in that game.

His 12-point output this season matched his previous high game versus Spring Arbor in an MCC Tournament game last season.

Scheetz had a career high four rebounds versus Ohio State-Mansfield this season; his previous high was two at Saint Francis (IL) earlier in the year, where he also scored nine points and had three assists.

Over the past two seasons, Scheetz made 45.2% of his attempts from the field and connected on 44.9% (31 of 69) of his shots from beyond the three-point line.

As a junior, Geoff had three games of three threes. He put in three three-point shots versus Calumet College of St Joseph, Saint Francis (IL), and Saint Francis (IN).

As a freshman, Geoff appeared in two NAIA National Tournament games in 2006, where he scored 6 points (shooting 66.7%).

Geoff's Four-Year Career

Over his four-year career, Geoff made 42.6% of his field goal attempts, and put in 42.2% of his three-point attempts.

During his four-year career at Huntington, Geoff scored 127 points, with 114 points coming by way of the three-point shot. Scheetz averaged 2.4 points a game during his HU career; he averaged 3.5 points per game over his last two seasons.

In total, Scheetz pulled in 21 rebounds over his four years, provided 27 assists to his teammates, and had 11 steals.

Great Expectations

Scheetz is an elementary education major and expects to teach and further his education over the next few years.

Geoff has demonstrated a high level of commitment and dedication at Huntington. We expect to hear some great things about him in the future as well.
