Good Season . . .
continued page 1

At the end of the season, the stats showed HU with two more records. First, the Foresters shot 80.9% at the line, erasing the old record of 80.1% set in 2006-07. Second, the Foresters made 647 free throws, eclipsing the old record of 635 set back in 1971-72.

Individually, sophomore Tyler Shively also set two new marks. First, he shattered both the HU and NAIA D2 consecutive free throw records by making 70 consecutive free throws without a miss (see article page 5).

By season’s end, he also set a new three-point shooting percentage record, making 50.5% of his three-point attempts. That broke the old individual school record of 48.7%, set by Kyle Ganton (2005-06). The previous mark of 48.6% was set by Brodie Garber (1996-97).

NAIA and MCC Comparisons
The Foresters did very well on offense this season. They ranked #1 in the MCC and #6 in all of NAIA D2 by averaging 86.2 points per game. Both their 1.089 overall points per possession and their 1.037 points per possession in MCC games were #1 in the conference.

They also ranked #1 in the MCC with 7.4 three-point field goals per game, and ranked #1 in the MCC with a 39.9% three-point field goal percentage. That ranked #3 on the list of all 150 NAIA D2 schools.

The Foresters ranked #1 in both the MCC and the NAIA with a 80.9% free throw shooting percentage. They were also #1 in the MCC with an assist/turnover ratio of 1.331 (#5 in all NAIA D2). Their season 16.8% turnover percentage (expressed as a percent of possessions) also ranked #1 in the MCC.

MCC Honors and Recognitions
MCC Conference recognition went to three Foresters this season: senior Kyle Benge (see article page 3) was named to the All-MCC Conference Second Team; junior Kevin Kyle was named to the All-MCC Conference Third Team; sophomore Tyler Shively was also named to the All-MCC Conference Third team.

Kevin Kyle made his mark in the HU records by scoring his 1,000th point on February 17. He ended the season with 1,037 points, having eight games of 20 points or more, and posting seven double doubles. Kevin was also an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete honoree.

Reloading for Next Season
The Foresters will miss their two seniors next year. Kyle Benge and Geoff Scheetz (see article page 4) scored 24% of the team’s points and got 9% of the rebounds this season. That’s a lot, but other MCC teams lose more.

Bethel graduates 38% of their points and 39% of their rebounds; Grace loses 44% of their points and 39% of their rebounds; Indiana Wesleyan will lose 51% of their points and 47% of their rebounds.

Huntington should do well again next season.
