David Lash, 2008 recipient of the Sophomore Honor Award from the Indiana Beta Chapter of the Alpha Chi National Scholarship Honor Society, has accepted an internship and will not be able to return this season.

Taking their places will be two good-sized newcomers: Bobby Jolliff, a 6' 8 (215 lb) junior transfer from Eastern Illinois University (and Hauser HS); and Caleb Kennedy, a 6' 6 (205 lb) freshman of Eastern Hancock HS.

Waiting in the wings will be another good-sized player: Nathan Jennings, 6' 6, 205 lb, freshman from Delta HS. Nate will redshirt this season.

Changes in the Schedule

The most prominent feature of the 2008-09 Schedule is 12 consecutive home games starting on November 14. That run doesn't end until next year.

Another notable feature is the scheduling of mid-week MCC Conference games back to Tuesday nights again, rather than Wednesday nights, as tried last season.

Also, five teams appear on the Schedule that the Foresters haven't played in the past five years. These are Holy Cross (IN), Marygrove (MI), Northwestern Ohio, Ohio State-Mansfield, and either Concordia (MI) or Cardinal Stritch (WI) in the Hall of Fame game.

There are seven non-MCC teams on the schedule that Huntington played last year: Indiana Tech, Calumet of St. Joseph, Kuyper (MI), Olivet Nazarene (IL), Shawnee State (OH), St Francis (IL), and St. Xavier (IL). The Foresters went 5-2 against those opponents last year.

MCC Pre-Season Poll
The MCC Coaches Make Their Predictions for the Season

Top Third Finish Predicted for HU
The MCC Coaches conducted their annual preseason poll with defending MCC Conference Champion Bethel favored to win it again. IWU and HU, after acquiring big NCAA D1 players, appear in the next two slots.

The Coaches' pre-season rankings of the MCC Teams:

1. Bethel (79 points)
2. Ind Wesleyan (73 points)
3. Huntington (59 points)
4. St Francis (44 point)
5. Spring Arbor (41 points)
6. Grace (39 points)
7. Taylor (37 points)
8. Goshen (23 points)
9. Marian (10 points)

The points for each team (above) tells us seven of the nine coaches expect Bethel to win the MCC title again this season. It also indicates that eight of the nine coaches expect Marian to finish last.

It will be an interesting season in the MCC Conference. As always, the Forester will compete.
